Hi! My name is Marie and I am a PhD student at the University of Southampton, UK, studying the impact of coastal hazards and climate change on the Solomon Islands.
In two weeks, I will start my 2-month-long journey to the Solomon Islands where I plan to collect field data for my PhD project. As part of my trip, I will visit the capital Honiara and Selwyn College on Guadalcanal as well as the remote communities of Fanalei Island and Walande Island in South Malaita.
My data collection will include interviews and participatory workshops with community members as well as beach surveys, bathymetry and wave measurements.
I will undertake all of my work in close collaboration with the Anglican Church of Melanesia and the Melanesian Mission UK. Without them, this trip would have never been possible.
